In animation of the past, much of the most incredible art created was for major motion pictures and TV shows alike. Disney, for instance, creates very complex layouts and fantastic scenes with fine details and concise compositions. They are works of art that flash by in 1/24th of a second. In contrast, backgrounds done with tight deadlines and smaller budgets at studios like Hanna Barbera were more functional and simplistic.

In a perfect world, with unlimited budgets and lots of time, animation art would have even more cultural significance.

Recently, AI has eviscerated the background and layout jobs in the industry. A layout or background, using the works of previous artists to train the Models, AI “creates” an image in seconds. This makes content creation faster, but the verdict is out if they are any better.
